How’s your reputation? This topic has been coming up a lot in convo with friends the last several weeks. People only getting a part of the story and making assumptions that are completely untrue about the rest. Has this ever happened to you? I know for me, people have assumed certain things about me based on only one part of the story, and honestly when I hear false things about myself or those I love it can tend to derail my peace as a recovering people pleaser. At some point I needed to make a decision though. And then keep making the decision. Am I going to let what other people say about me designate my actions, or what God thinks about me and who He has created me to be. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for their wrongs, and there is no favoritism.”Colossians 3 Giving up the role as judge is so freeing. It’s only God that knows the full story, peoples inward thoughts and intentions in any given situation. So letting him do His job and taking that burden off of me allows me to love without judgement. I’m continually convicted by this scripture “for in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you”- Matthew 7:2 So if I’m quick to jump to conclusions and quick to judge, that’s the same measure that will be judged for me. That’s not what I want. It’s way more freeing to: “not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.”-1 Peter 3:9 Blessing to me is better than the temporary feeling of getting payback. So I’m reminding myself today and wanting to hear from you. A prayer of mine is to see others through the lens of love. To be slow to judge and quick to let God avenge me instead of trying to clear my name myself so to speak. How’s your reputation? Love hearing from you!
