Happy MLK day! This is Caleb taking over the post from Stefanie today, and I wanted to share my favorite quote from Dr. King “Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”

These words ring ever so true in our world today. With the accessibility of the online world, there are so many perspectives being thrown out into the world daily. Love, hate, passion, fear, joy, sorrow, pain, all feelings expressed and so visible by all because of social media.

I for one am a huge fan of social media, I see its power for good, to be able to share love to all, to provide a message of hope in the darkness. All of us have a voice that we can use for light or darkness. A voice that if we use to love, can cause a little more good in the world.

Like Dr. King, I believe that darkness cannot drive out darkness, that hate cannot drive out hate. The horrible words that are spewed daily on this platform are heart-breaking. Things said to others in response to hate are often just as bad if not worse. But I just wanted to encourage myself and all of you today to let love drive us in our decisions, in our responses, and in our actions.

I pray that we would be able to put this into practice more, and when things are hard, or when we get hate, that we would choose to pray, or to love those back who choose to harm us. I think love is a much harder, but more powerful tool to use, and I want us all to take a little from Dr. King. Choosing to love when others practice hate, and maybe, just maybe, our world will become an even better place.
